Photography takes centre stage in Sitges from 17 May to 1 June

The 21st edition of Fotomaig comes with more than 400 photos in 12 exhibitions. All the displays have free admission.

The traditional date with photography returns to Sitges from 17 May to 1 June. Fotomaig reaches its 21st edition in 2025, again highlighting photographic art as a form of expression that shows different realities, emotions and feelings. The Photography Section of the Sitges Study Group (SFGES), with the collaboration of Sitges Town Council and social, cultural, educational and sport organisations from the town, are promoting this initiative that this year features 477 photographs covering different themes through 12 exhibitions in 11 spaces in Sitges.

Photography lovers and anybody else interested have a meeting point through this event which besides its photography exhibitions offers other activities such as audiovisual screenings, talks and films.

Fotomaig opens on 17 May at 7 pm, at the Espai Cultural Pere Stämpfli, home of the GES.

Exhibitions dedicated to Sitges

At the municipal market we’ll be able to see 28 different images from the Photography Section of the Sitges Study Group, under the title Estimat Sitges. The same organisation will be offering a display in the foyer at the Hospital Sant Joan Baptista de Sitges, with 26 images of different spots around the town under the title Sitges, diferents mirades.

In addition, the SFGES will be complementing these exhibitions with a collective feature at the Miramar-Centre Cultural, this year made up of 35 authors exhibiting four photos on the same theme.

The photographer Pep Escoda will be displaying his work in the Capella de Les Arts at the Fundació Ave Maria.

The Tarragona photographer Pep Escoda has been working professionally in this field since 1990 and specialises in interior design, architecture and portraits. A selection of his portraits will be on display in the Capella de Les Arts at the Fundació Ava Maria and the photographer will also be offering a tour and a talk on his work on 24 May, at 7 pm.

During his career he has won twenty awards, published his photos in more than 140 books and exhibited his work individually and collectively.

Lee, a biopic to bring famous photography to a broader audience

Fotomaig also includes a screening of the film Lee, a biopic telling the story of the famous photographer Elizabeth ‘Lee’ Miller, played by Kate Winslet. Lee photographed some of the most important moments of the 20th century. The film of the model who became a recognised war correspondent for Vogue in World War II is being shown at various times at the Cinema Prado, from 15 to 19 May.
